New Curved Bridge to Connect Marina Bay and Gardens by the Bay for Cyclists and Pedestrians

A new curved bridge for pedestrians and cyclists will be built to better connect Marina Bay, Gardens by the Bay, and nearby park connector routes. The bridge aims to make walking and cycling in the area safer, smoother, and more direct.

The bridge will be located near the Benjamin Sheares Bridge, crossing the water between Marina Centre and Bay East Garden at Gardens by the Bay. Construction is expected to start in early 2026, and the bridge should be ready by 2029.

Once completed, the bridge will link several popular areas, including East Coast Park, Tanjong Rhu, and parts of the Round Island Route. This means cyclists and walkers will no longer need to take long detours or use busy roads to move between the city and the eastern parks.

The bridge is designed with both people and boats in mind. It will sit high enough above the water to allow vessels to pass underneath. Ramps will connect users to different destinations, making the bridge accessible for cyclists, walkers, and those with mobility needs.

Facilities such as a pavilion and public toilet are also planned near the bridge on the Tanjong Rhu side. Existing floating pontoons in the area have already been moved to prepare for construction.

Urban planners say the bridge will fill an important gap in Singapore’s walking and cycling network. For cyclists, it offers a more direct route into the city. For pedestrians, it creates a pleasant way to move between green spaces and the waterfront.

Some cyclists have shared that the bridge will be especially helpful when other routes are closed or crowded. However, there are also concerns that the bridge may become busy with tourists and joggers, so users will need to share the space considerately.

Overall, the new bridge is another step in making Singapore more walkable, cycle-friendly, and connected.
